Physical Education
Scoil Phádraig Naofa N.S. is committed to providing high-quality Physical Education to all pupils. As per the Department of Education Curriculum and Guidelines for Physical Education, all classes receive 60 minutes of formal PE lessons each week. All classes are taught the strands of Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games and Outdoor & Adventure each year. Of course, we encourage brain and movement breaks throughout the days where possible. We also encourage parents to ensure their child also engages in some form of activity at home to ensure they receive the 60 minutes per day children are recommended to get. Pupils from 3rd-6th class have been really enjoying their swimming lessons in Aura Dundalk Leisure centre to engage in the strand of Aquatics. These lessons last for 6 weeks.
Teachers use a variety of resources to guide them in delivering quality PE lessons. PSSI Lesson Plans are widely used throughout the school and we are focussing on the Athletics strand and the fundamental skills of running for the school year 2022/2023. We are introducing the Move Well, Move Often programme to teach the Fundamental Movement Skills to all pupils. This year we decided that running will be our focus for this year. We have all agreed as a staff that this fundamental skill is extremely important for all children. This focus will allow for the sharing of resources and ideas among staff.
