Physical Activity
Lunchtime Leagues – we run various lunchtime leagues throughout the school year. Teams are made up of boys and girls from different classes and matches are played during lunchtime. These sports focus on Gaelic football and Soccer.
Playground Leaders – pupils from 2nd up to 6th class and those on the Active School committee are the Playground Leaders. They have special hi-viz vests they can wear on the yard. They have many jobs including distributing and collecting P.E equipment at break times. Making sure PE equipment is back in the correct place in the PE store room. Being line leaders. We hope to train older classes to play games with the infant classes.
Active School Walkway – We use the pitch or around the school building as a walkway. We are also hoping to add to the signage from Active Flag to create a more comprehensive and educational walkway where teachers can use it for various teaching opportunities.
Active Breaks – All classes take part in active breaks throughout the school day. This includes Go-Noodle, Bizzy Breaks and a variety of classroom movement ideas. On a wet day, if pupils cannot go outside at break time, extra time will be given to movement breaks in the classroom. We participated in the Active Break Challenge in November and December.
Active Homework - As a school we believe that active homework is just as important as written and academic homework. Therefore, this year we are pledging to give active homework during our Active School Week. We encourage all of the family to get involved with their children and make exercising fun for all.
Run around Ireland Challenge – this year we will be trying out the Run around Ireland challenge. Each class chooses various Irish landmarks to ‘run’ to e.g. Armagh Planetarium.
Themed Fitness Challenges – Throughout the year we engage in fun challenging activities at Halloween, Christmas, Easter etc. For example at Christmas time we do the Santa Walk, Saint Patrick’s Day parade and so much more!
